Classic Movies. Timeless Cocktails. Relaxing Nights.
Life can be a lot these days. Constant news headlines, overflowing inboxes. .Never ending responsibilities. So much pressure.. It’s enough to make you want to escape sometimes.
Escape the stress, one classic film at a time.
At our house, unwinding means curling up on the sofa and vegging out with a movie. But with countless channels, and apps to choose from, even picking the right thing can feel overwhelming. Where do you start? Whether you’re watching alone or with someone, how do you pick just the right movie to match the vibe you want?
Frankly, you don’t need more stress; you need some suggestions.
I’m here to help.
Get movie recommendations from a passionate fan
I’m not a professional critic, and I’m definitely not a mixologist. But I can connect a movie to just about anything I’m talking about to friends, colleagues, or clients and I’ve often gone off on a tangent to explain why they should watch a movie that relates to what we’re discussing.
My love for classic movies was ignited by my mom, Pauline. In high school in the 1940s, she was a cashier and an usherette at a local movie theater in our little town. As we were growing up, when a movie came on, she would say “You HAVE to watch this…” She’d then tell us about what was happening in her life when the movie came out, who the stars were, and why the movie mattered to her.
Where the idea for the site came from
My husband and I were watching Hitchcock’s Rear Window on Turner Classic Movies, when the scene where Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, and Jimmy Stewart are having a brandy came on. I asked him if he’d ever had brandy. He hadn’t and I hadn’t either. So the next time I was at the liquor store I decided to pick up two of those tiny bottles like they have on airplanes so we could try some.
The clerk of course wanted to sell me a much bigger bottle, so I explained why I only want a sample-size. I was completely shocked to discover she’d never seen the movie.
On the way to my car, it hit me: if people were missing these iconic films, maybe I could help them discover them. And what better way to do that than having a friend tell you why a particular movie is worth watching, and suggesting a themed drink to go with it?
But you don’t need alcohol to have fun
Just to be clear…I’m not telling you to drink alcohol. I’m not encouraging you to start drinking if you don’t already and I’m not trying to tempt you if you’ve stopped. I’m also not saying you need alcohol as an escape, a stress reliever, or to add to the enjoyment of a movie.
I’m not a big drinker myself. It’s an occasional treat. But when I do indulge, I like to try something a bit creative whether it’s a cocktail or a nonalcoholic version (referred to as a mocktail).
So use your judgment and if you’re not of legal drinking age where you live, don’t drink alcohol. The same goes if you’re pregnant, or could become pregnant, And for heaven’s sake, don’t drink and drive and don’t let any guests do it either.
